Here's a poem I wrote in high school. It's pretty dorky: spoken word style. It's relevant to my next post though. Also I reckon it's better when performed because the lame rhyme scheme sounds impressive when it's done quickly and of course parts of battle are acted out and yelled.
You’ve eaten the Fruit now
You can’t not eat the fruit now
It’s delicious
Crafted according to divine wishes
The snake a godly messenger created from the same source as you
Swishes
On the belly it’s happy to move on
Approvingly hisses
Glides on through dawn
Through time
Across continents
Weaving itself through stars
Folklore
Creation
you
Oh but the informed taste from that tree
Also teaches you the beauty of despair, the concept of “me”
Leading to art and science
Regret, the modern appliance
Art, meaning, regret,
The five paragraph essay
Art
You strive to dismantle the roots of the tree
Taking stabs at your kundalini
You try to tear the serpent from your spine
Die snake die!
One notch at a time
Start with the tail
And begin to unwind
Your urges faults and earthly binds
With burning desperation you cut, rip
The snake snaps back
In a battle-spasm, your hip juts, you trip
Your posture slackens
Preach to me
Talk because you can’t dance
The ill snake sleeps
Drugged out of synapse
Flashing colors regulate laughter
The box in the corner is causing your collapse
What do you do after
Your headache comes into office,
Apathy attaches to where inspiration once bit
The heartache gets noxious
And that old allergy medicine just doesn’t cut it?
Numb, numb, numb
Side affects may include: drowsiness, headache, lack of sentient- thought, heartburn, projectile vomiting, bankruptcy, asthma, irritation, seizures or redness
Ask you doctor if proxyhydrocalm is right for you
Get shot up if you’re afraid to get the flu
Repress, repress, repress,
Those urges are nothing new
What if there’s no one there to tell you what to do?!?
What's that moving in your over-the-counter-vomit?
It’s the snake you thought you slew
Pour your thoughts on it
Beg for the lifting of this curse,
You’ll be forgiven
After all, the serpent in your spine
Created the universe
